Superpowers

I’ve often thought about what it means to have a superpower. Not the kind you see in films or comic books (I have plenty of those)  — but the quiet, human ones that shape how we show up in life, business, and community.

For me, coaching has revealed that our greatest powers aren’t extraordinary at all. They’re usually hidden in the way we think, connect, and care.

When I started BigohCoaching, I didn’t set out to become a “coach” in the traditional sense. My work was born from years of watching brilliant people struggle — founders, consultants, creatives, educators, tradespeople, leaders — each with talent and vision, yet held back by the complexity of running a business or the fear of stepping forward. Over time, I realised my role wasn’t to tell them what to do, but to help them see what they already had: the tools, the ideas, the potential. That’s where the superpowers emerged.

The first is what I call connected thinking. It’s the ability to see the whole picture — how every part of a business connects. Most owners I meet are working incredibly hard in their business but rarely get the time or perspective to work on it. Coaching gives them that space. Together, we look beyond the day-to-day and uncover how small, intentional shifts can create huge ripple effects. A client once told me that our sessions helped them “see the invisible threads” — the relationships between their goals, people, and systems. Once those threads are aligned, growth stops feeling accidental and starts feeling inevitable.

My second superpower is the power to unlock potential — helping people unlock what’s already within them. Many of my clients arrive feeling stuck, unsure of what to prioritise or fearful of taking the next step. Coaching provides a mirror and a map. Through questions, reflections, and structured accountability, we build clarity. Confidence follows naturally from that clarity.

I’ve seen entrepreneurs rediscover their voice, leaders regain balance, and teams learn how to communicate rather than compete. Coaching, at its best, isn’t about motivation — it’s about transformation. It’s the moment someone realises they no longer need permission to lead; they just need to trust themselves.

And then there’s the third — perhaps the one I’m proudest of — connector of people. Beyond one-to-one coaching, I’ve found power in bringing people together: in rooms, circles, and networks where collaboration replaces competition.  As a volunteer leader with the Federation of Small Businesses, Action for Race Equality and through partnerships with local councils and community groups, I’ve seen how shared knowledge changes lives. It’s not just about networking; it’s about belonging. When people feel seen, supported, and celebrated, their capacity to lead expands — not only for their own success but for others’.

These experiences have taught me something profound: every business, every leader, every human being operates within a system — of relationships, habits, beliefs, and opportunities. Change one part of that system, and everything else begins to move. That’s the heart of systems coaching. It’s not quick-fix advice or motivational talk; it’s a structured, compassionate process that brings clarity, focus, and action to what really matters.

So if you’ve never experienced coaching, here’s what I’d say. Don’t think of it as hiring someone to “fix” things. Think of it as starting a partnership designed to help you see differently — to connect dots you didn’t know existed, to rediscover confidence you thought you’d lost, and to act with purpose rather than pressure. You’ll still face challenges, but they’ll start to make sense. You’ll see patterns, learn to anticipate them, and feel more in control of your journey.

At BigohCoaching, this approach has earned recognition — from the SME UK Enterprise Award for Best Business Coaching & Mentoring Organisation in 2024 to the heartfelt testimonials from clients who say their lives feel lighter, more focused, more aligned. But what matters most isn’t the award; it’s the transformation in others — watching people turn hesitation into momentum and overwhelm into opportunity.

I often say that clarity breeds confidence, and confidence fuels action. Those three steps — clarity, confidence, action — are the rhythm of my coaching. They’re also the essence of every hero’s story: seeing the world as it is, believing you can change it, and stepping forward to do so.

So yes, I have my superpowers — but the real question is, what’s yours?

Maybe it’s time you found out.
